Recovery Time After A Vasectomy
Many men generally do not like to adhere to their doctor’s follow up care instructions after they have had a vasectomy. All
they want is to get right back on their feet and they fail to realize that a vasectomy, no matter how simple the procedure may have seemed, is a
surgical procedure nonetheless. It is imporant to follow your doctor’s orders if you want to improve your recovery time after you have had a
vasectomy.
Type Of Vasectomy
To improve your recovery time after a vasectomy, having a no scalpel procedure can go a long way to getting you back on your
feet quicker. You will have less discomfort than you would have if you had a conventional vasectomy. Many more health care providers are choosing
this option for their patients as there are less side effects and reversal is possible when it is done in this way.
What About After The Vasectomy?
What happens after you have left the doctor's place? After the procedure, your doctor will give you a list of
instructions you need to follow. Deviating from the after-care plan may prevent you from bouncing back as quickly from the procedure. Try to
follow the instructions provided for you as closely as possible.
You will need to rest and stay off of your feet for the first few of days after you have had a vasectomy. Even if you work
from your home, you will have to take it easy. Those who have to work outside the home, try to schedule your vasectomy on a Friday so that
you have the weekend to rest before returning to work on Monday morning. Typically your doctor will prescribe you pain relievers and tell
you to take them as needed. Don’t try to be a tough guy; take your medicine if you are feeling any discomfort or pain. That is precisely why your
doctor prescribed them to you.
You will also be instructed to ice your testicles. Yes, this is as bracing as it sounds. This is an important instruction to
follow so you don’t experience any swelling. If you follow the advice of your doctor, you can avoid painful swelling that may accompany a
vasectomy. If you prefer wearing boxers, now is the time for you to wear briefs. This will give the extra support you need for the first couple
of weeks after you have had your vasectomy. Don’t worry; you don’t have to wear them past the first few weeks.
Before you start having unprotected sex with your partner, you will be asked to give a sample of your sperm. This usually
happens about two months after you have had your procedure. This is to ensure that you have a zero sperm count and can no longer impregnate a
woman. If you fail to use alternate forms of birth control before you get your doctor’s okay, you run the risk of getting your partner
pregnant.
Make sure you follow your doctor’s instructions and you will be back on your feet in no time. If you fail to do so, you may
wind up back in the doctors office with complications that could have been avoided.
